Alfred C. Phillips, Sr. died unexpectedly on July 1, 2020 at the age of 90. He was born July 19, 1929 in Emanuel County. He was the son of the late Sappho Phillips and the late Leora Hicks, both of Emanuel County.
Upon moving to Florida in 1955, Alfred worked on and off for the city of Atlantic Beach, Florida before becoming permanently employed on August 13, 1968. He started out as a Street worker and was promoted to Street Worker Foreman. He retired after working for 33 years.
Alfred enjoyed fishing, gardening and working on anything he’d find to do. He had an answer for everything, know what I mean (his favorite saying). Alfred had so many stories about his life growing up.
Alfred’s health started to decline and the decision was made that he move in and be taken care of by his daughter, Erma until his passing.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Issac James Ross and a son, Horace Deloach.
He leaves behind his sister, Ethel Randolph; brother, Freddie Hicks (Pearl); daughter, Erma Cummings; three sons, Alfred Phillips, Jr., Crawford Johnson and Camron Phillips; stepchildren, Johnny, Annie and Barbara. Alfred was also blessed with a number of nieces, nephews, grands, great grands and great great grands. He will surely be missed by many especially his great great grandkids which he thought was his responsibility for taking care of.
