Betty Jean Williams was born on May 8, 1946, to Mamie Lee Thomas and Walker Thomas Sr., a vibrant, bold, and unforgettable spirit from the very beginning. Raised in Jacksonville, Florida she grew into a woman whose presence could fill any room. Betty was the life of the party, the one who kept everyone laughing, and the person people naturally gravitated toward. Her humor, her honesty, and her larger‑than‑life personality made her loved and respected by all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Stanton High School’s Class of 1964, Betty carried her confidence and joy into every chapter of her life. She began her career serving in the cafeteria for Duval County Public Schools, where students and staff alike adored her warmth and quick wit. She later transitioned to driving a catering truck for Coffee Times, becoming a familiar and beloved face throughout the community. Betty ended her career as a Manager at Mossovits Produce Company, where her leadership, humor, and heart made a lasting impact.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Walker Thomas; her mother, Mamie Thomas; her siblings Albert Thomas, Vanessa Buckman, Walker Thomas Jr., and Eddie Thomas; and her sister‑in‑law Shirley Thomas. Though she experienced loss, she never lost her spark. She lived with joy, loved without hesitation, and carried her faith with her every step of the way.
She leaves a legacy of love to her children April Williams, Laterro Williams, and Tanya Williams; her grandchildren Latorre’a Smith, Romalous Jones Jr. (Jada Jones), Monquell Candice Williams, Armani Jones, Yahshanti Byers, Paige Williams, and TZaddi Askew; and her great‑grandchild Carmelo Robinson. She is also survived by her siblings Ella Clark (Earl Clark) and Willie James Thomas (Ella Thomas), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored her deeply. Betty lived boldly, laughed loudly, and loved fiercely. Her faith in God was steady, and her joy was contagious. On February 26, 2026, she answered her Father’s call and entered into eternal rest.
