Mrs. Chanel Ray-Towson was born on February 9, 1982, in Jacksonville, Florida to Betty Ray and lovingly raised by her stepfather, Ricky Glover, Sr. She was the second oldest of three children.
Chanel accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Greater Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Leo M. Jones. She received her early education from Duval County Public Schools, graduating from William M. Raines High School – Class of 2000, with honors and excelled as a state-level athlete in track and field. Furthering her education, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Bethune-Cookman University (Hail Wildcats).
For over 15 years, Chanel was a devoted teacher, coach, and mentor, that touched countless lives through her work in the classroom and on the field. Students, colleagues, and athletes alike remember her for her encouragement, guidance, and lasting impact. Through her dedication to education, Chanel became a Duval County Teacher of the Year recipient.
She was joined by Michael Towson in marriage for 15 years. Family was at the center of Chanel’s life and was blessed with three children Brandon, Lazariah, and Michael. Together they built a blended family rooted in love, laughter, and shared memories.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ricky Glover, Sr.
Chanel survived by her husband Michael Towson, Sr.; children, Brandon, Lazariah, and Michael, Jr.; mother, Betty Ray; brothers, Rickey Ray (Terri) and Ricky Glover (Shanika); Nieces, Makayla Ray and Raegan Glover; Nephew, Xavier Ray; a host of extended family, friends, students, and colleagues who will cherish her memory.
