Ethelyn Delores Walker-Reynolds was born Wednesday, October 7, 1953, in Jacksonville, Fl. She was the sixth of nine children born to Earl and Gertha Lean Walker. “Ethel” as she was affectionately called, received her education in the public schools of Duval County here in Jacksonville. She was a proud member of the 1971 graduating class of William M. Raines High School.
Being reared by Christian parents, Ethel accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in 1964 under the leadership of the late Rev. S. A. Thomas, Jr. She loved her church and served with dedication and commitment. She was our beloved church clerk for over 35 years and served with distinction until her health slowed her down. Ethel was also a member of the Young Matrons, Missionary Society, Office volunteers, Victorious Women’s Ministry and Secretary/ treasurer of District #2.
Ethel was employed by St. Vincents Medical Center as an environmental specialist from 1978 until her retirement in 2014. She loved her community and after retirement, she participated with the Carvill Senior Community Center where she served as secretary/treasurer.
Ethel was an excellent cook and some of her specialties included her world-famous cornbread dressing, cakes and sweet potato pies, which she taught others to make.
Ethel was the mother of Eddie Lee Reynolds, Jr. and Vonda Renee Benjamin and the proud grandmother of Jamaya Andrea Bell.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Gertha Lean Walker; siblings, Bobby Walker and Juanita Walker-Anderson.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her children, Eddie Lee Reynolds, Jr. and Vonda Renee Benjamin; Granddaughter, Jamaya Andrea Bell; siblings, Willie “Bo” Walker (Sandra), Sarah Ruth Walker-Powell of Riverdale, Georgia, Terry Walker, Donell Walker (Leola), Anthony Walker (Michelle) and Joann Walker-Thomas; Nine nieces, eleven nephews, thirteen grand nieces, eleven grand nephews, two great nieces, friend like a brother, Judge Webb, Jr. and a host of other cousins and friends, including Linda Shubert and Emily Kitt.
