Geneva H. Holmes Mungin passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 Geneva was born October 10,
1932, to Joe Willie Holmes and Minnie Lee Perry in St. Johns County, St. Augustine, Florida, and
grow up in Saint Luke AME church. The family later moved to Jacksonville. Where she attended
Duval County Public Schools and graduated from Stanton High School. After graduation she became
an entrepreneur by starting her own Day Care Center. She was the Owner and Director of Eva’s Day
Care over 30 years. She later worked at St. Stephen Child Care and Learning Center. Return to
School and graduated from Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary and received her Bachelor’s
Degree in Biblical Studies.
On January 5, 1970, Geneva married the love of her life Robert “Bob” Mungin.
Together Mrs. Mungin and Mr. Bob operated Eva’s Day Care.
Geneva was raised in a Christian home, a member of St. Stephen AME Church 70 plus years, on the
Trustee Board, Class Leader-class #14, Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Leader, Senior Ministry
(SAM), and Coordinator of the Evangelism Explosion Ministry. She was an active member of the
Incomparable Ladies Club, The Pilgrims Social and Savings Club, Catherine Dawson Women’s
Missionary Society, The October Birthday Club Coordinator, Truth Seekers Bible Study Group and
Zeta Amicae Auxiliary –Beta Alpha Zeta Chapter, Inc. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
She loved teaching young people over the years they have showered her with many gifts of love. Her
passion was decorating the church for each holiday. Geneva received Certificates and Awards for her
community involvement. Her leadership will continue to shine in all the young people and others that
she has touched. Matthews 5:16 “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father which is in haven”.
Her mission work which she enjoyed included caring for others as she weekly attended and carried
others with her to the Duval Correction Centers. Teaching and Praying with youth, women and men
about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as each of them learn more about the Bible. Servant of God,
Job Well Done.
Preceding Geneva in death were her parents, Joe Willie and Minnie Lee; brother,
Ollie Lee Holmes.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband for 53 years, Robert Mungin; son, Isaac Jackson;
daughters, Cynthia Perry and Cheryl Cooper; grandsons, Justin Perry, Sr. and Terrenyce Cooper; great
grands; a dedicated extended family member, Earl Kinsey; a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and
friends who will all miss her dearly.
