Hattie Pearl Brown was born on May 31, 1945 to the late Mr. Alton and Mrs. Pearl Brown in Williston, South Carolina where she attended public school. After moving to Jacksonville, Florida with her mother, Hattie attended college for secretary and insurance work. She worked for over twenty years at the Afro American Insurance Company.
Sister Hattie gave her life to the Lord at an early age, the Lord called her to preach the gospel. She preached under the anointing and with conviction.
Hattie had a special love for people and would witness to the lost and would pray for them.
For many years she would work and cared for her mother. One day Hattie met her husband, Evangelist Willie Cooper, she loved him and travel many places with as he ran many revivals.
She moved to Vero Beach, Florida, which became her home. After her husband passing, Hattie began traveling and taking care of her love ones, it did not matter how far one was, if you were sick, she would catch the Greyhound bus to pray for you and nourish you back to health. She was such a giver of her time, help, and being a great encourager.
Hattie was known as a woman of faith, who took God at His Word. She faced many trials and tribulations, but she was confident that God would see her through every one of them. She would love to talk about the good old days, about the church of yesteryear and would exclaim, we need to go back to the old-time way, and let God have his way.
Of course, Hattie loved to have fun and could make you laugh. After her health started falling, she moved back to Jacksonville with her niece and her family. Even in her sickness, she never complained about pain. Different family members and friends came by to see her, she loved when hymns and old songs were sung and of course the Word of God read to her. She was so happy to be back home with her family.
Hattie leaves to cherish her memories her Brother-in-law, Bishop Henry James, Sr.; Sister-in-law, Mattie Cooper- Hanna, West Palm Beach, FL; Her niece who was her caregiver, Evelyn (Carl) Walker.
She preceded in death by her mother and father, Alton and Pearl Brown; her brothers, Lenton, Edgar, Levi, Johnny and Wardell Brown; her sisters, Gloria Brown and Mary James, a host of nieces and nephews and cousins who will cherish her memories.
