My mother ‘Helen ‘was born the 1st of five children; to the late Ronald & Isabell Ragans on January 26, 1947. Helen 4 siblings ‘Marie Baker, Linda Townsen, Wanda Ragans and the late Roland Ragans jr. (2000).
Helen (Ragans) Proctor grew up on the eastside of Jacksonville, and was educated in the Duval County Public school system. Helen later attended Job Corps in Cleveland Ohio. After Job Corps, Helen returned to Jacksonville, Fl and went to work for Duval County school board.
Helen pursued several opportunities and followed her heart to become an entrepreneur. To name a few of my mother’s adventures (Mary Kay, Prime America, Deco Plants, Catering and a cleaning service). Helen was always busy at something, and she loved creating her own path. With all her heart; my mother was always in living out her purpose.
A major part of Helen’s journey and legacy; was her union to the late Herman Proctor. They were wedded in August of 1975, and celebrated over 35 years of marriage until he was called home in December 2012. Their union produced 7 children. Two daughters, Angelique, Antoinette (Marcus), Charles (Takeshia), Kevin (Tywana), Michael, Herman and Matthew (Sonya). Helen touched the lives of each of her grandchildren (Justin, Darryl jr,Jessika , Erika, Darnell,Juebrell, Kierra, Kandace, Aaron, Markisha, Maya, Jarajah, Jakanah, Kyla and Kennedy. Helen also had a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Helen spiritual journey was a long road of quest and questions. Helen had her ups and downs and she searched in church buildings, community centers, private homes and schools for the true and living God. Helen was truly a giver; and she gave everything she had to anyone in need. Some of you many remember starting a home bible study, conducting morning pray groups, placing a phone call to share a scripture and even hosting a Christian radio program. Helen was surely going to share God’s word with the world. Helen undoubtedly found her purpose….
