Joseph Jerome Upson, Sr.

Joseph Jerome Upson, Sr. passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born December 25, 1948, to Ada Upson and Willie Upson. His older sister Sophie named him. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as JoJo. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, wife, and son. 
 

Joseph was blessed with a large and loving family. He attended a local school in Duval County. Joseph raised eight children with discipline and humility. He retired from CSX after serving 25 years. He was a member of True Holiness Church where he served on the Deacon Board for many years and later was ordained as an Elder. He enjoyed reading, problems solving, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn T. Upson and his last born Jerimy Jonathan Upson.  Joseph leaves to cherish his memory a loving family; children, Joseph J. Upson  Jr, (Darlene Upson), Stephanie J. Phillips, Dale D. Upson Sr, Eric J. Upson Sr, Joni J. Upson, Timothy S. Upson, (Luz Maria Gomez-Upson) Rebecca A. Upson Dagrin; grandchildren, Taylor Vance, Jacquellynne Strong, Cynthia K. Bingham, Deity K. Phillips, Gadi T. Phillips, Isaiah L. Phillips, Avery M. Smith, Alexandria Z. Upson, Stephanie Z. Randall, Dale D. Upson Il, Trinity D. Alexander, Eric J. Upson ll, Jerimy (Jamal) Upson, Jerimy Jo-Nathan Upson, Gloria B. Dagrin, Kate-Lyn M. Dagrin; sisters, Thelma Jenkins, Sophie Hamm and Rose Williams; sisters-in-law, Shirley Sullivan; nephews who were like brothers Larry Jenkins, Robert L. Upson Sr., Marvin L. Upson; and many other lives he touched.
