Joyce Jackson Obituary

Life's journey began for Mrs. Joyce R. Jackson on March 7, 1955 when she was born to the late Samuel and Mary Reid in Jacksonville, FL. She attended the local schools and was a proud Viking, graduating in 1973 from William M. Raines High School.

Joyce furthered her education and received an Associates in Science degree in Early Childhood Education. She devoted many years to shaping the foundation of learning for children while she was employed with Episcopal Learning Center and All Saints Early Learning Center. She was a dedicated employee of the State of Florida and more recently, Rescare, where she was a home-care companion.

Mama loved cooking and baking as well as traveling and listening to jazz.

Joyce touched and changed so many lives during her lifetime, something that she was very proud of. The families that she assisted and the babies that she cared for as a nanny brought her great joy!

She was a faithful member of Summerville Baptist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.

Mama transitioned from her earthly life to life eternal on June 4, 2019. We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for the 64 years that He loaned her to us. Although our hearts are heavy because of her departure, we rejoice in knowing that she is reunited with her parents, brother, Norman Reid and her husband, Phillip E. Jackson.

Joyce leaves precious memories to be treasured by her loving daughters, Tawana M. Chance and Taimiko M. Green; caring granddaughter, Alexis McCoy (James Stanford); adoring great-grandson, Chase Stanford; siblings, Lucile Anderson (Wilbert), Derrick Reid, Curtis Reid (Tammy) and Stephen Reid (Rhonda); stepmother, Luester Reid; stepsister, Rosena Young (Watt); sisters and brother-in-law; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, including a devoted niece, Brandi Lemon (Mike); goddaughter, Michelle Devoe and longtime friends, Deborah Jennings, Olga Napoleon, Cheryl Cannon and Beverly White.
