Leroy Shavers Obituary

Mr. Leroy Shavers was born November 6, 1953, to the late Gordon and Naomi Shavers in Ben Hill County, Georgia. He was raised on the family farm, with his siblings.

Leroy attended school in the Ben Hill County School System where he graduated with a technical degree. Prior to joining the military, Leroy worked at many of the local warehouses and auto shops. He would then take that experience to the military where he served in both the US Army and US Navy. After his tours of service, Leroy went on to work in the trucking industry as a diesel mechanic at Rollins/Penske for over 30 years before retiring in 2022.

After retiring, Leroy spent a lot of time socializing with grandkids, family, and friends. He was very family-oriented and made himself available for all of his family in need and no matter where he went, he never met a stranger as he loved to converse with anyone about anything. Leroy had a magnetic aura because he wasn’t scared to march to the beat of his own drum. If he had questions, he’d ask and he had no problem offering his opinion while also being willing to offer support.

Leroy’s memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife Mrs. Yolanda Johnson-Shavers. He will forever remain in the hearts of his daughters, Camilla-Naomi (Bubbles), MaQuetta (Eugene), Tamika (Damien) and Kema (Makarios). His legacy will be carried on by his grandchildren, Tyler, Teyanna, Mattox, Taylor, Damari, DaNyla and Damien, Jr.

Leroy was proceeded in death by his parents, Gordon and Naomi Shavers; his grandparents, Sarah Ellis Shavers and Sarah Robinson; two sister-in-laws, Cathy Anderson and Edna Shavers; three sisters, Emma Shavers Rose, Betty Fletcher and Gail Peterkin; brothers, Gordon Shavers, Jr., Harold Shavers and Bruce Shavers; aunt, Sarah Fuller; uncles, George Shavers, Lenwood Shavers and Melvin Freeman.

Leroy is survived by his sisters, Sarah Shavers (Michael), Rosa Sirmans, Joann Lester (Vernea), Brenda Fuller, Teresa Battle (Jeffery), Clara M. Hall (Bennie), Faye George (Johnny) and Sabrina Jackson; brothers, Patrick Nelsons (Diane) and Jerry Jackson; aunts, Elvira Blair and Mary Mays; special cousin, George Shavers (Ida); special friends, Penske Co-workers and Lewis Memorial AME Family.
