Letiandrea Willette Rucker-Hinton, affectionately known as “La”, was born on September 28, 1973, in Jacksonville, FL to Luther and Lerose Rucker. She was a devout Catholic. Letiandrea later relocated to South Carolina and made Charleston her home.
La, was educated in Jacksonville’s private school system, attending Holy Rosary Catholic School before graduating from Bishop Kenny Catholic High School. She continued her academic career at Bethune-Cookman College (now University), where she proudly earned a dual bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry. She then matriculated to Michigan State University where she earned her master’s degree in chemistry.
To know La was to love her. She will always be remembered as the beautiful, bubbly, Devil Wears Prada kind of girl – stylish, spirited, and unforgettable. Her vibrant personality, warm heart, and effortless charm left an impression on every life she touched.
Letiandrea had a passion for healthcare and a fascination for learning all things about health. She worked as an Asthma Education Specialist and was a Certified Community Health Coding and Billing Specialist. She also had a heart for the Autism community and served as the secretary on the board of directors with Lowcountry Autism Foundation in South Carolina. She also enjoyed a successful career as a Pediatric Healthcare Manager at Fetter Healthcare Network, Inc., where she was recently presented with the Margaret J. Wetson Award by the South Carolina Primary Healthcare Association.
La loved spending time with her family at the beach. As the eighth grandchild of her paternal grandparents, she was a member of the group affectionately known as the “Dirty Dozen,” sharing her childhood with siblings and cousins who grew up as one united family. She was the life and laughter of her entire family, bringing both Lucas and Ruckers’ together in unity and love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; Luther and Lerose Rucker; maternal grandparents Leroy and Bernice Lucas, Sr., and paternal grandparents Thomas and Lizzie Rucker.
Survivors to cherish her memory include her two beloved children, Ellxis and Jordyn Hinton, who were the absolute lights of her world. She also leaves to mourn her brother; Lenrico (Carlecha); and Leron Rucker, and Santonio Lucas-Tyler (Tonya); nephew; DeSean Rucker, nieces; Ivane and Journei Rucker, uncle; Breon Lucas and Earlie Rucker, aunts; Ludell Ervin-Williams, Phyllis Brooks, Novetta Butler, and Irma Rucker, Jackie Surrency and Shelia Barr. A host of loving cousins and friends.
