Linda Wright Obituary

Linda Lee James entered this world on March 14, 1956, in Springfield, South Carolina to Bishop Henry Lewis and Lady Mary Louise Brown James. She was the oldest of 12 children.

Upon the family’s relocation to Jacksonville, Florida, Linda was enrolled in Duval County Public Schools and subsequently graduated from Paxon High School. Following graduating high school, Linda continued her education in the nursing field at Jones College.

As a Pastor’s kid, Linda was fully immersed and engaged in ministry.  She served in myriad auxiliaries as a teacher, youth worker, she also directed and sang with various groups and choirs, including The Jacksonville Revival Mass Choir and The Joyful Inspirationals.

Linda’s heart for people and serving was highlighted in her appointment as administrative assistant for Bishops in The Church of God organization. Throughout the years, Linda, ever the faithful steward, was appointed missionary, evangelist, teacher and eventually mother in the church.

Linda also found joy in caring for children. She honed her innate fondness for caring, which spanned over many decades, initiating with her brothers, sisters and others in the church and neighborhood— culminating with caring for her own grandchildren.

In 1982, Linda met and fell in love with her loving husband, Johnnie M. Wright. As she formed a bond with Johnnie, she also formed a loving bond with his children.  She loved them as her own and would have it no other way. As their love blossomed, so did their family; and they welcomed two more children into the union. The Wrights became a family seven.

Shifting her focus from career goals outside the home, Linda committed to raising her children and providing a warm and loving home for her family. Linda instilled in her family the importance of pride, loyalty and care for the blessings which God had bestowed upon them. God indeed blessed Johnnie and Linda to be married for 39 years.

Preceding Linda in her death are her mother, Lady Mary L. James; brother, Pastor Anthony B. James; Mother-in-law, Mother Mable Ford.

She leaves to bask in the light of her memories: her loving, devoted husband, Johnnie M. Wright;  father, Bishop Henry James, Sr; Children, Tamika, Johnnie, Jr. , Wanda, Alajuwon(Akeisha) and Sheldon (LaShawnda); Grandchildren, Jovan, Jr., Joquan, Ian, Jr., Iyanah, Jayla, Venturi, Harmoni, Brinley, Allison, Ryli, Camille, Dallas and Jakari; Siblings, Michael (Debra), Andy, Henry, Jr.(Lesha), Ronnie, Evelyn (Carl), Lisa, Stevie, Christopher (Latoya), Kenneth (Donnette) and Malcolm (Solanica). She also has been blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends, all of whom she loved very much.

With exceeding joy, Linda entered her Heavenly Father’s eternal rest and peace on December 17, 2022, leaving behind her garment of pain, toil and labor. Glory to God, she received her promised reward!

Although Linda is no longer with us, her love, light, laughter and lessons will embrace us all and will last a lifetime.
