Mrs. Lois Elizabeth Swangin, age 81, peacefully passed away on August 29, 2025, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida.
Lois was born on March 25, 1944, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, to the late Eugene Thomas Sr. and Rosa Thomas. She was educated in the Nassau County Public School system and proudly graduated from Peck High School in the Class of 1962.
In 1965, Lois moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she lived and worked for several years. During her time in New York, she met and married Oscar Swangin, Sr. The couple later relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1972, where they continued building their life together.
Lois had a vibrant spirit and enjoyed traveling, watching Nollywood African films, and, most of all, spending quality time with her family. Her warmth, wit, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Rosa Thomas Sr.; sisters, Roslyn Morrell and Geraldine Legree; brother Eugene Thomas Jr.; and nephews Ralph Washington and Bruce Thomas, Jr.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved husband, Oscar Swangin, Sr.; daughter, Kim Lee; son, Oscar Swangin, Jr. (Keneisha); grandchildren, Travis Hutchinson, Kennedie Swangin, Marcellus Swangin, and Nevaeh Swangin; and great-granddaughter, Macii Swangin; brother-in-law: Julius Swangin.
She is also survived by her nephew, Bruce Thomas (Liz); nieces, Cheryl Swangin and Cynthia Swangin; great-nephews Dominique Thomas, Demetrius Washington, and Jaylen Mayhew; great-nieces Kiarra Thomas and Miyana Washington; great-grandnephews Lorenzo Johnson Jr. and Denim Thomas; special niece, Barbara King; goddaughters, Amber Atkinson and Stephanie Green.
Her legacy of love, strength, and family will live on through all who had the honor of knowing her.
