MARDRIVON BROWN DANIELS, born March 8, 1944 in Wauchula, Florida, was the third of five children born to Jessie and Hannah Brown. She was raised and active as a child in First Missionary Baptist Church. The pastor, Reverend G.H. Peterson, who was also her godfather, gave her the unique name, Mardrivon. However, her brothers decided to name her “Doll” (which was much easier to pronounce), and to this day, it is the name she is affectionally called by family, friends and the entire town of Wauchula. Growing up, she attended the Public Schools of Hardee County, and graduated in the Class of 1963 from Lillian R. Brown High School, where she was also Head Majorette.
On June 7, 1964 she married Ollie Daniels and moved to Jacksonville, Florida later that very same day. A year later, in May 1965, she became the mother of son Patrick; and in October 1972, daughter Kimberly completed their blessed union.
The family joined Saint Stephen AME Church in the early 70s, under former pastor, Reverend Robert V. Webster (now the 110 th Bishop of the AME Church). Mardrivon gave of her time and talent to the church, as one of the founding members of the Young Adult Choir (which was later renamed the R. V. Webster Choir), a member of the Young Women of Allen, and she served as assistant supervisor of the Junior Usher Board.
Mardrivon took great joy and pride in her children, and after several years dedicated to raising them, she made the decision to become a professional educator. She began her career at Duval County Public Schools, and after the family moved to Miami, Florida in 1987, she taught in the Dade County Public Schools until her retirement in 2006.
In Miami, she was a faithful and active church member. At Martin Memorial AME Church, she was a member of the Usher Board, TECHS (Teach Each Christian How to use Systems) Ministry, and Senior Citizen Outreach Ministry. At Christ Episcopal Church, she was a member of the Daughters of the King Missionaries. After retirement she returned to Jacksonville and resumed her membership with Saint Stephen, under former pastor, Reverend Michael Mitchell (now the 134 th Bishop of the AME Church), where she joined the Catherine Dawson Missionary Society, served with the Mission & Vision Outreach Ministry and participated in other activities and programs.
Her greatest joy came in December 2011 when her grandson, Mackenzie, was born. He was the light of her life and she was so thankful to God that He blessed her with the honor of being a Grandmother. Mardrivon enjoyed traveling, shopping, and most of all being surrounded by loved ones. She treasured her family time, always spending the holidays and birthdays with her children and grandson. She deeply appreciated the friendships she cultivated over the years and was a mother-figure to many. She was a kind and gentle soul; always leading with a smile, open arms to hug and outstretched hands to help where and however she could. She gave her heart unconditionally, sharing her sweet spirit with all who were fortunate to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dorothy, and brothers, Rodney and Irvin; her siblings-in-law, Cheryl and Bruce Irvin, with whom she was very close; and her dearest friend, Louise Durden.
Mardrivon leaves cherished memories of love and joy with her family and friends: son, Patrick and daughter-in-law, Saretta, daughter Kimberly, grandson, Mackenzie; brother, Bobby Brown; close cousin, Lillian Haywood; nieces, Evelyn Brown and Shemeika Brown; nephews, Marcus Brown and Reginald Brown; godchildren, Walker and Corey West, Dahonna Culmer, Stephanie Kendrick; other children, Sylvia Gaddis, Jolita Durden and Donna Walter; closest friends, Carmen West and Penny Lawrence; and a host of other relatives and friends who will truly miss her, including her beloved Saint Stephen Family.
