Mary Killian Obituary

Mrs. Mary Singleton Killian was the youngest and the only daughter of four children born to the late Edward and Matilda Singleton on November 22, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mary received her formal education in the public schools of Duval County and graduated from Stanton High School in 1945. She was joined in holy matrimony with Tom Killian Sr on June 11,1947 and out of that union seven children were born.

Mary was a Supervisor and Union rights leader in her early days of employment at a local Linen Supply Service for over 20 years. She spent over 15 years at the Jacksonville Port Authority as a Personal Assistant and Cook. She ended her work career at the age of 77 as a Shuttle Bus driver at the Jacksonville International Airport.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age at Asberry Methodist Church. She would later lead her family to join the West Friendship Baptist Church under the Lord’s Shepherd, Reverend Richard L. Wilson, Sr. Her love for her Heavenly Father was clear and unquestionable. She was a faithful and dedicated member to her Pastor and Church until God called her home. She was a long- time member of the Gospel Chorus until her health prevented her from singing. She acted as an advisor to the District of Kindness and was a fierce advocate for the Seniors of the church. She was inducted into the Super Senior Plus 90+ club in 2019 and was affectionately called “Granny Mary” by her Church family. She actively attended the Wallace P Small Senior Citizen Center where she met her friends to play games and fellowship. Miss Mary loved fishing and traveling and continued to do those things even after being
confined to her wheelchair.

Mary was a dedicated and fiercely devoted Mother to her seven children and loved them unconditionally and with her whole heart. She was the happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. She was a Grandmother, a Great Grandmother and a Great, Great Grandmother. She will be missed because she was well liked and loved by most of the people she encountered.

Mary was preceded in death by her Husband, Tom Killian Sr, her Parents, Edward and Matilda Singleton, Brothers, James, Johnny and Joseph Singleton. God called his Sweet Daughter, Mary, home on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 2:55 am.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted children, Tom Killian (Effie), George Killian (Barbara), Elydia Killian Fedd, Jacquelyn Killian, Raynell Killian (Debra), Lionel Killian and Katrina Killian (Lloyd); Beloved God Daughter, Regina Richardson; devoted Godson, Randle Jackson. A host of loving Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great, Great Grandchildren, other relatives, church family and many sorrowing friends.
