Mrs. Mary Lizzie Adams Wilson was born to the late Emma Jean Sykes Adams and Levy Adams in Hawkinsville, Georgia on May 17, 1927.
Mrs. Wilson moved to Jacksonville, Florida at an early age and received her education in the Public School System. She married Donnie Wilson on February 11, 1946, who preceded her in death. She worked for 30 years at Duval County Public Schools as a Food Service Assistant until she retired in December 1989.
Mrs. Wilson professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and joined West Friendship Baptist Church where she was a member for over 60 years under the leadership of the late Reverend Richard L. Wilson, Sr. and Pastor Timothy L. Cole, Sr. Mary was faithful and loved being a dedicated servant of God. She served faithfully in many capacities. She was a member of Choir #1, Deaconess Ministry, Senior Ministry, a member of the District of Kindness and was honored to be ordained as a Church Mother in 2019. She enjoyed attending church fellowship events and activities. Mary was also an active participant and enjoyed attending the Wallace P. Small Senior Center where she would fellowship with her friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Wilson loved and appreciated life and was always willing to help those around her. She loved gardening and took great pride in her flowers and plants. She was a masterful cook and baker, always making sure to make the family’s favorites: Caramel Cake and Sweet Potato Pie. She also enjoyed watching the Florida-Georgia College Football Game every year, always cheering for her original hometown team, The Georgia Bulldogs.
She was affectionately known as Mother, Grandma, Granny, Auntie, Mae Lizzie, Sis. Wilson, Mary, and Mrs. Mary. Each title is loaded with a rich history and a deeper meaning, with Love being the foundation of each. As the matriarch of the family, Mrs. Wilson always put God first and knew the power of prayer. She was no stranger to sacrifices, hard work and perseverance. No matter what obstacles she faced, Mrs. Wilson was always a strong, independent woman; unknowingly teaching valuable life lessons to everyone around her.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her Husband Donnie Wilson, her Parents Emma and Levy Adams, Son Daniel Stephens, Sister Clara Grier, and her dear Aunt Fannie Mae Garner. Our Heavenly Father gave His dear daughter, Mary, her wings on Friday, June 19, 2020.
Mrs. Wilson leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children, Louise Alston (James), Charles Wilson (Vera), Dorothy Kohn, Johnnie L. Wilson (Cassandra), Diana Hollingsworth (Hollis), Larry Stephens, and a host of loving Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives, church family, and many sorrowing friends that will miss her very much.
