Mazalia McWhite Obituary

Mazalia McWhite, a radiant light of strength, wisdom, and unwavering love, transitioned from this life leaving behind a legacy as deep as her roots and as wide as her heart. Born on October 17, 1958, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was a lifelong example of grace, faith, and perseverance.

Mazalia was the beloved daughter of Joann Johnson and Charlie McWhite III, who continue to carry her spirit forward. She was also profoundly shaped by the quiet strength and enduring presence of her grandparents, Hattie McWhite and Charlie McWhite Jr., and her cherished aunt, Carchie Kendrix, whose nurturing influence was felt in every chapter of Mazalia’s life.

A woman of devotion and service, Mazalia retired after 42 years of dedicated work with Blue Cross & Blue Shield, where she left an indelible mark through her diligence, compassion, and integrity. Her commitment to excellence was matched only by her loyalty to the people she served alongside.

Faith was her foundation. A full and faithful member of Greater Hills Temple from birth, Mazalia was not just present—she was active, prayerful, and rooted in service. As the head usher, she served with grace, dignity, and deep devotion, greeting each soul who entered the sanctuary with a warm smile and a reverent heart. Her spirit filled every corner of the church—whether in song, in quiet prayer, or in comforting embrace. Her life was a living testimony of her unwavering trust in God.

Beyond the sanctuary, Mazalia had a deep love for adventure and discovering new places. Whether it was a weekend road trip or a journey across the country or abroad, she found joy in the journey and wonder in every destination. Traveling was her way of celebrating life, creating memories, and embracing the beauty of God’s creation wherever she went.

Mazalia's family tree is full of love and connection. She leaves behind her siblings: Shelia Sumpter, Liz Davis, Alicia Martin, Charles McWhite Sr., and Adrienne McWhite. She also shared unbreakable bonds with cousins who were more like siblings: Wanda Williams, Troy Sapp, and Tammy Sapp. Her godsister, Janice Burch (Deacon Lester Burch), stood as another pillar in her circle of sisterhood.

Mazalia didn’t have children of her own—but in truth, she mothered so many. To her beloved cousin Barry Williams Jr., she was more than kin; she was a mother figure and a guiding voice. Their weekly talks were sacred, and her constant reminder to him, “Whatever you do, keep your eye on the prize,” will continue to echo through his life. She also carried her godson Willie Session Jr. and Jasmine Williams close to her heart, with the same unwavering love and pride.

Her legacy continues in the lives of countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her encouragement, her laughter, and her fierce, joyful spirit. Whether she was offering wisdom, lending a helping hand, or lifting someone up in prayer, Mazalia made everyone feel seen and valued.

Though Mazalia’s earthly journey has come to a close, her story is far from over. It lives in the lives she nurtured, the prayers she prayed, and the love she so freely gave. She reminded us all to stay focused, stay faithful, and always—always—keep our eyes on the prize.

Rest well, Mazalia. We love you, but God loves you best!
