Mellnease Rhim Obituary

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.  Proverbs 31:10

Such was the life of our beloved Sister Mellnease Kendrick Rhim.  The admiral epitome of a Christian woman and a Pastor’s wife.  Loving and caring for all who surrounded her, having a spirit that overflowed with love, kindness, spirituality, compassion, and grace.

Mellnease Kendrick Rhim was born June 16, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Robert and Rosella Christina Kendrick.  The youngest of the four children.  Attended the local schools in Duval county. On November 3, 1951, she was united in holy matrimony to Henry Thomas Rhim.  From this union two children were born – Barbara Ann and Henry (Hank)Thomas Rhim, Jr.

Sister Rhim, a faithful and dedicated member of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church. She served as C.T.U. teacher (Books of the Bible), former President of the Deaconess Ministry, and former President of the Ministers’ Wives Ministry.  Sis. Rhim was the first President of the Ministers’ Wives and Widows Ministry of the Progressive M & E Baptist State Convention under the leadership of her husband, President Emerituis Rev. Dr. H.T. Rhim, and was an active participant in the National Baptist Convention under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. E. Edward Jones, and Rev. Dr. Stephen J. Thurston.  Women around the country admire and immulate the teachings of the duties and character of a Minister’s wife and Deaconess in the Missionary Baptist Church.

She loved the St. Joseph’s family, and it goes without saying that the St. Joseph family loved Sister Rhim.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  You could always find a home cooked meal at her home on Sunday, with the doormat the said, “welcome, come on in.”

She was preceded in death by her sister, Essie Howard; brother, Robert Kenderick; sister, Verdella Reed, and son-in-law Alphonso Hayes.

Servant of God well done… Sister Mellnease Kendrick Rhim made her transition on Monday November 9, 2020, surrounded by family.  Her legacy will be cherished by a loving and devoted husband Pastor Emeritus Henry T. Rhim, Sr.; devoted daughter, Barbara Rhim Hayes and son, Henry T. (Karen) Rhim, Jr.;  Grand children, Tonetta Jordon, Eric (Karletta) Hayes, Tierra (Reynaldo) Davilla, Marlon Rhim and Breona Monique Hayes; Great grands, Tonie and Calvin Jordon, Khaleel Hayes, Mariah Davilla, Jayden and Brandon Hayes;  God daughter, Deirdre (Rev. E.C.) and other relatives and friends.

A special “thank you” to Debora Steele, Lorenza Reed, and Cynthia Reed for your love, support, and dedication to the Rhim Family.
