Monica Edwards Obituary

Monica Nicole Edwards was born on May 27, 1973, to the late Diane Sutton and the late John Walker. From the very beginning, Monica embodied strength, resilience, and a spirit that would touch countless lives.

She began her education in the public schools of Duval County, attending Greenfield Elementary School and later graduating from Englewood High School. Monica had a love for learning and life, and although she did not have a permanent church home, she faithfully attended various churches, always keeping her faith close and her heart open to God.

In 2004, Monica met the love of her life, Willis J. Edwards. What started as a simple ride turned into a lifelong journey of love, companionship, and unwavering partnership. On January 22, 2009, they were united in marriage, and together they shared 17 years of true marital bliss. Their love was undeniable—full of support, laughter, and a deep bond that added meaning and joy to each other’s lives.

Monica and Willis built a loving home in Jacksonville, Florida, where they raised their three children: Jason J. Cooper Jr., Tywanda M. Johnson, and Micheala E. Johnson. Monica was a devoted wife and mother who poured her heart into her family. She was the foundation, the nurturer, and the guiding light in their lives.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Monica worked for many years as an Executive Housekeeper at Hampton Inn. She took great pride in her work and was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence. More importantly, she was a provider and a protector—always willing to sacrifice to ensure her family had what they needed and more. Monica didn’t just take care of her own; she extended love, help, and kindness to anyone in need.

Monica was a woman of quiet strength and a generous heart. She had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her resilience, determination, and ability to keep going no matter the circumstances made her truly remarkable. She was the kind of woman who made a lasting impact—not just through what she did, but through who she was.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Diane Sutton and John Walker; her great-grandmother, Willie Bell Robinson; her brother, Larry Walker, Sr.; her cousin, Lushanna Sutton; and her cousin, Tony Sutton.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband, Willis J. Edwards; her children, Jason J. Cooper Jr., Tywanda M. Johnson, and Micheala E. Johnson (Devin); her beloved grandchildren, Tyshawn I. Johnson, Londyn N. Russ, Tra’viyon J. Johnson, Ti’yon R. Johnson, Ta’Niyah F. Graham, Ferral J. Graham, Jr., Ja’Nyah Williams, and Ayana Williams.

She is also survived by her siblings: Derrick Sutton, Michelle Sutton, Zita Sutton, Jacleda Ghent, Jeffery Ghent (Mimi Ghent), Christopher Pullen, Herman Smith, Tracie Edwards, Supremer Caster, Carl Caster, Catinna Wilson, La’tarsha Jones and Marco Johnson; cousin, Tyrone Sutton; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends. A very special recognition is given to her beloved aunt, Sadie Sutton, whose love and presence meant so much to Monica. She is also survived by the wife of her father, Chrissan Walker.

Monica Nicole Edwards’ life was a testament to love, strength, and perseverance. Though she may no longer be with us in the physical, her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her love will continue to guide her family, her memories will bring comfort, and her spirit will forever remain a source of strength.
