Thelesia Butler was born November 28, 1929, in Marianna, Arkansas to the union of Wesley Purnell Cary and Christina Cary. She was the 5th of 7 children (Desanna, Savannah, Charlie, Matt Clement, Lavina and Naomi) who all preceded her in death.
She was a very happy child and gave her life to Christ at a very early age. When she was 14, she moved to St. Louis, MO where she continued her education. However, at the age of 15 she started working at Deaconess Hospital in Housekeeping. There she met a young man named Dorsey G. Butler (who preceded her in death).
In 1956 they married and to this union 4 children were born. They moved to E St Louis, IL where they lived for many years. Thelesia was a devout Christian. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was on the Usher Board and a member of the Busy Bee Org. She had the biggest heart and would open her doors to help anyone. Her family meant everything to her. She was known as “Aunt Dorothy” and “Aunt Thea” to her nieces and nephews. She loved bowling, playing cards, going to the casino, playing bingo, and listening to her blues! She was the best cook around and she loved just spending time with her family.
On October 22, 2023, God saw fit to call Thelesia home at the beautiful age of 93. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michael L. Butler (Terrine), Dorford G.
