Wayne Oliver James, 68 was called to rest on October 15, 2019. He was born on April 27, 1951 to the late Eliga and Minnie James. He was a member of Petra Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of Drs. Cornelius and Gloria Newman and now Reverend Yvonne Johnson. As a child, Wayne was a member of the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist where he served on the Usher board. He was educated in the Duval County Public School System and graduated from William M. Raines High School in 1969.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army Reserves, worked for the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer, a Duval County School and at a local hotel in Maintenance.
Wayne was known for his good cooking and great humor. He enjoyed being outside and watching television.
Wayne is survived by his children’s mother, Mattie McNish, their five children, Anthony McNish, Tracy McNish, Darryl McNish, Calvin McNish and Michael McNish, ten grandchildren; five sisters, Mavis James Williams, Gwendolyn James Cofer (preceded in death), Linda James Waters, Harriet James Wiseman and Annette James Wilson (Thomas) and three brothers, Rodney James (Patricia), Anthony James and David James (Janice), Nathan James and Harold James preceded him in death. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
